Running on the Lakefront and Procrastipacking

When I heard fellow Oiselle ambassador and blogger Lisa at Yo Momma Runs was coming to Chicago for a few days, we decided to plan a run together! Since she had never been to the city before, I knew we had to do it up right and made plans to head to the lakefront path. (Those of you unfamiliar with the path can check out some great photos on these blogs here and here.) Due to my short "lunch break" time frame, I jogged to Lisa's hotel and we headed to the lakefront from there without much haste. (I wanted to get the most out of the run.) It was so nice chatting about life and some of the differences between the south and Chicago. Once on the path, it was not at all crowded so we really got to experience the view of the lake and the city in some of the best ways possible. She's thinking about doing the Illinois Marathon (which I helped Amanda run earlier this year) so I gave her some ideas about the course, etc.

When setting up the self timer on my phone, we realized we had on the same capris... I guess that is what happens when you run for the same great brand! :) On the way back, my navigating skills were not as great as the way out so thankfully Lisa had remembered a short cut from her explorations earlier in the day. (You can check out some of her explorations here.)

I know I've said it before but I'm really lucky to be an ambassador of such a great organization and I get the chance to meet other runners and bloggers from across the United States!

Speaking of other bloggers around the United States, a ton of us from the Illinois/Wisconsin area will be running the Zoom Women's Half Marathon (and 5k) this weekend. I'm really excited to spend a whole weekend talking about running with some of my favorite internet pals IRL! So excited, in fact, that I was (procrastinating) packing on Monday night... I had to make sure I laid out all possible outfit ideas for all possible weather conditions.
You never know how it could be on race day morning, especially if you're racing away from home! Thankfully I've already packed most of the things on my checklist! :)

Have you done a destination race? Do you tend to overpack (like I already know I'm doing)?

  1. I am SO impressed you already packed... it hasn't even crossed my mind. I'm assumingmy entire weekend will be spent in sweat pants or running gear...

  2. Oh sweat pants are definitely on the list. It is no different than what I wear on a normal weekend...

  3. I can't believe how big Lake Michigan is. It looks more like the ocean. Looks like you and your friend had a great run. I ran on the beach in Cape Town when I was on holiday there a few years ago and I must say that see breeze really is great for the lungs. It's certainly good to be prepared particularly outfit-wise cause you never know what the weather could be like, especially since winter is just around the corner that side of the Equator.

  4. You'll have to excuse my different profile showing every time I post a comment. I'm kind of new to the blogging department so I'm still finding my around it.

  5. Don't even get me started. Packing for Dublin is going to be a long, wine fueled evening. Or two.

  7. I still need to start packing...but I did finally do laundry so its a step in the right direction. Hopefully I won't forget anything but I do agree with Kelsey running clothes and sweats all weekend long :)

  8. Haha I can't even imagine packing for another overseas trip. I have enough trouble packing for an overnight trip.

  9. It is quite huge! The breeze from the lake was at our backs on the way out so we didn't even notice it until we were on our way back. Haha.

Yes, winter is around the corner, but we run through all types of weather conditions! No bad weather, just bad gear... :)

  10. I had put some things aside, but really bumped it up once my laundry was complete. Is it weird that I have favorite "running outfits?" Haha

I'm dying to do a destination race in 2013. I already even made a potential list!! And yes, I am the worst over-packer ever, which is very unfortunate considering I travel for work almost every week :/ womp womp

  12. Destination races are always fun. Best of luck with your planning!!

Packing for work is always difficult, especially if you have to carry-on!

  13. I love running with bloggers! So cool that you two got to meet up! :) I bet it took you some time to get to the lake from your office! And that your garmin was all jacked!

NYC was a destination race for me. Well, I have raced there a few times! I overpack when I am not flying ;)

  14. Again, it was a blast running with you! I did the trail one last time on Thursday before we headed out, and I wanted to cry it was so beautiful and peaceful. Now I have to go see if you posted details about your half yet!
