Latest TV Loves

As spring is just around the corner and we're coming out of our winter cocoon, I thought I might share with you some of the TV shows I fell in love with over my maternity leave and subsequent frigid cold winter. We signed up for Netflix while I was out and now we also have Apple TV. This has really helped fuel our addiction to certain shows. If you ever have a weekend to kill where you want to be parked in front of the TV, here are some great recommendations.

Bob's Burgers -- I'm really over most of the animation on Fox but BB is different than the others and quite hilarious. The hubs and I really identify with Linda and Bob.

Brooklyn Nine Nine -- before they won an award, I was telling everyone how great the show is. Nice to see that others agree. I think Gina is my favorite character. And Terry too.

The Following -- I'm behind on the current season but I absolutely loved binge-watching season 1.

The Killing -- From the same guy that brought you True Detective, this show is another crime thriller. It was cancelled after it's first season but then brought back for 2 more. It was cancelled after season 3, but has been picked up by Netflix for a 4th season, simply to wrap things up. I can't wait!

Alias -- This Jennifer Gardner spy classic is still pretty awesome even with the outdated clothes and technology. I haven't finished watching the series yet because I don't want it to end!

Scandal -- I blew through season 1 very quickly and am now part way through season 2. I understand the hype--this show is amazing!

Orphan Black -- This sci-fi thriller really grew on me throughout the first season. It is done by BBC Canada and so the cheese factor is toned down quite a bit. I can't wait for season 2. That reminds me, I need to set my DVR to record it!

Happy Endings -- This show was amazing. It was cancelled after season 1, but then reinstated on a different network for 2 more seasons. After season 3, it was cancelled again and not picked up. It has a bit of a cult following and I really hope they make this show available on Netflix. Right now seasons 1 and 2 are available on DVD but season 3 is only available on Amazon on some sort of DVD-R or something? I don't really get it, but reruns are usually on VH1.

Are there any shows that you really love that are on Netflix and worth binge-watching? Have you seen some of these shows? Do you agree with my thoughts?

  1. Bob's Burgers is pretty funny, and I looooved Alias back in the day. I've been slowly working my way through season 1 of House of Cards lately.

  2. I can't decide who my favorite character is on Bob's Burgers. I love them all in their own way. Except Jimmy Pesto Jr. He annoys me. Haha.

I haven't yet gotten into House of Cards but I hear it is amazing!

  3. I don't watch much TV (residual effect of choosing to not have TV/cable for 5 years) and generally don't like reality type shows or a series show where I need to watch each episode to know what's going on.

I like to watch more informative travel type shows- anything Anthony Bourdain, dangerous grounds, and a few shows on the esquire channel.

You should check out house of cards. We've only made it through the first 5 episodes of season 1, but it is very well done.

I loooooove Alias and Scandal -- and definitely Happy Endings. I was SO mad when it got cancelled!! Do you watch Parks and Rec? That one is definitely binge worthy (especially seasons 3-5). The guys who created Brooklyn Nine Nine (which I also love) write/wrote for P&R. I also recommend Orange Is the New Black (season 2 finally comes out in June!) and The Mindy Project. Oh, and 30 Rock.

    I could go on... lol.

  5. Oh yes, I know you love the travels shows. I must admit, I have watched more of his shows based on your recommendations.

After I'm caught up on Scandal, House of Cards will be next on the list.

  6. How could I forget Parks & Rec? That is my all time favorite show. I've seen many episodes multiple times. The one where Jerry gets "mugged" but really farts himself into a creek after eating a breakfast burrito is one of the CLASSICS.

I haven't seen Orange is the New Black yet but it is on my list. I got into the Mindy Project this season but I wish last season was on Netflix. I think one of my husband's aunts has the DVD of season 1 that I just might need to borrow.

  7. I love Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Bob's Burgers - we've been watching both since they started! The kids on BB all just crack me up, especially Tina and her obsession with butts lol. This winter we really got into Psych. It's a little corny, but a fun detective show with interesting enough cases. The first 6 seasons are on Netflix, I'm hoping they add season 7 & 8 soon.

  8. We only just got into Bob's Burgers and have blown through all of the seasons. I was so excited when Season 3 was JUST added to Netflix. We've already seen several of the episodes more than once. Haha yes Tina and her butt obsession and then Louise and her thought process... Oh man. Hilarious.
