Random Thoughts Thursday

1) I had a really fun time meeting Anne this past weekend. Our in-laws both have cottages in Michigan and it was (strangely enough) easier for us to meet up in Michigan than in Illinois. We had plans to meet at this cute old time soda shop that also sold ice cream but when we arrived, they were randomly closed. Not to worry, we looked up a local Dairy Queen to walk to and still got ourselves some delicious ice cream. :) I love meeting bloggers in real life after you feel like you already know them from the internet. It is kind of weird yet cool all at the same time. One of the many reasons I love having my blog is all of the wonderful people I have met as a result. :)

2) This "30 signs you're almost 30" article from BuzzFeed has been making its way around the internet this week. Being 29 myself, lots of these things really hit home. Click on the link if you haven't done so already. My favorites were #3, 8, 9, 13, 17, 18, and soon to be #30.

This is the kind of stuff I ate before I was pregnant. Why would I change now?
3) I continue to be annoyed with pregnancy healthy food and snacking advice. I'm reminded weekly (if not more often) on the various baby apps that I have about what I should be eating and how I should be fueling. The most recent one included some tips on how to avoid ordering pizza and how to make a healthy alternative at home with an english muffin. Um, sorry but if I want pizza, I'm going to be ordering pizza. I did that before I was pregnant so why would I change now? Everything in moderation, just as in life.

What are some of your random thoughts this Thursday?

  3. Haha maybe the next big holiday!

Oh man, I think you're onto something with the ice cream shop sponsorship...

  4. Amen to that! Bloggers for sure are the bomb! Haha

  5. Umm yes, you're allowed to eat what you want as long as it's in moderation! I love blogger meet ups! Those are totally my favorite :)

  6. I must be the weird part of blogger meet-ups, since I don't find them weird LOL :) Actually, I'm always so nervous! Like what if I'm totally misrepresenting myself, and now people can tell? I know my blog makes me seem pretty awesome and interesting (ha!) - but will that come off in person? But seriously, it was SO FUN hanging out, we'll have to do it again!

Also, I love the pic of you with the coffee cake - that's cracking me up!

  7. Anytime, Meghan! I know from Kim that we're a fairly short El ride apart :)

  8. Baby Wilson needs the pizza. Eat it!

I love meeting bloggers, and seeing if they're the same in real life as on their blogs. Bloggers on the whole are lovely people.

  9. Kelly, I think you should write a sarcastic "eating" tips post. Ha ha ha. Maybe that would make you feel better. We make pizza almost once a week. And I usually have two slices. I made it, yo. I don't eat it all the time, but I don't think it's THAT bad for me (of course, mine is sans cheese, but still).

I love Anne! And you! Hee hee. So happy that you two got to meet up! Even though your cute ice cream shop plans failed!

  10. I guess I use the word "weird" loosely since we are all part of the generation who's parents told them not to meet people from the internet because they are all bad and scary.

Yes, we have to hang out again! Maybe next time when the ice cream shop isn't closed! :) We'll be up again for Labor Day weekend, but probably not before then as our weekend schedules in July and August are pretty crazy!

Thanks, that coffee cake was delicious! I wish I had some with me right now. :)

  11. Haha exactly! I'm not going to change the way I eat by consuming less calories when I'm pregnant. I mean, I get where they're coming from, to a certain extent, it is just annoying. I don't think many pregnant women would opt for the crappy "english muffin" pizza versus the real deal. Let's be honest here.

  12. Haha, I don't know if I'm snarky enough to do that. I might need to enlist the help of Gingerfoxxx. TBD! These tips are just kind of ridiculous. I know we've talked about this offline before. Obviously almonds are a better snack than M&Ms and that baked chips are better than normal potato chips... but I was eating all that stuff before I was pregnant. I don't need a reminder about this regularly, dumb pregnancy app. Lol.

I think that the cute ice cream shop being closed just gives us an excuse to meet up again! :)

  13. Oh shoot, we won't be able to go for Labor Day :( We'll be in Ohio for a baptism. We will be there the weekend before (August 24th & 25th) because Bob's running the Michigan Wine Trail Half (and he talked me into at least doing the hot and hilly 5k). But I hear ya, most of the rest of my summer weekends are all booked up!

But don't you still have to help Maggie find a good brunch place in her new 'hood? Maybe I'll see you if you're up this way! The good news is, we have cute ice cream shops here too :)

My dad calls my blogger friends "the nice girls from the internet," LOL.

  16. The 30 tips just makes me go Ouch! I'm also 29 and so many of my friends reposted it..I just went...ack. Lol!

Pregnancy food advice is so irritating. And some of it makes no sense - it's become folk lore almost, so ingrained in our culture no one comments on it but no on really knows the risks. I got dirty looks buying sushi last night - and it was precooked sushi! (I eat raw sushi too, but they had no way to know that..)

  17. That article from Buzzfeed was hilarious. I mean, I'm over 30 and they almost all apply so, yeah, it's true :-)

I admit, I'm not gonna be pregnant ever so I don't feel like I can comment on the whole "eating while pregnant" thing but it does sure seem like some people take it to the extreme one way or the other! Just eat how you ate before. It's not rocket science, right?

Also, I'm jealous you guys got to meet up in Michigan! I think we need to do another Zooma-esque trip there next year.

  18. I'm sure we've already talked about this, but I'm not a big fan of "healthier" versions of stuff. It assumes that the original version is "bad." I don't mind alternative recipes, but I hate the whole "this is good, that is bad" with food.

  19. YES to the Michigan trip! For one of those races at a winery!! I know there is a wine trail half in August and didn't Emily do a 5K earlier in the summer?

  20. Oh yeah, I get judged when I go to Starbucks or when I drink diet pop. Um, in moderation it is just fine! I read the baby book, I know what I"m doing! Lol.

  21. Yes, we have talked about it before. Everything in moderation. Food = fuel.

  22. Yes, eat how you ate before... That is pretty much the route I've been taking. It seems to be working out well for me so far. :)

  23. I'd be down for one next year, after Baby Wilson is born. :)
