Workout Mash-up and Other Random Thoughts

Right now I'm feeling extremely under the weather. What started as a few sneezes on Monday has turned into a full on head cold that intensified Tuesday night and has only gotten worse. I have had a bad cold twice in the past 6 weeks and it is not fun, let me tell you. This time, I asked my doctor what I can take for it. She said Mucinex would be alright so I took some last night before bed. Now that it is wearing off, I'm back to feeling exactly how I did yesterday. Fun times, fun times. Thankfully, before things got to be too bad, I was able to get in a workout this week. (I'm hoping to feel better by the weekend to get in another run, but we'll see.)

On Tuesday I hit the treadmill with a goal of finishing 1-2 miles. After a mile, I wasn't really feeling it anymore so I headed to the elliptical and did a mile. I actually didn't hate the elliptical as much as I remember. In fact, I rather enjoyed the variety in this workout. Maybe because now things are different for my body. I move differently and my joints react differently. This pregnancy has really given me a new appreciation of what our bodies are capable of. It is quite remarkable.

And I don't think I'll be able to wear my "I Run with Fast Women" tee much longer. It was a bit tight in the abdomen/baby bump region! :) At 18 weeks, the bump is finally starting to emerge, just a tad bit. And I apologize for those that aren't familiar with me talking in "weeks." All the books and websites refer to pregnancy according to weeks. Once the baby is born, it seems like the books and websites refer to infants according to months. This is one of those things I'm learning along the way! A typical pregnancy lasts for 40 weeks and the 20 week mark is considered half-way. Since my due date is September 21st, I'm at about 4 months with 5 months left to go. Almost half way!

  1. The permanent pregnancy head cold! Welcome! And yuck!

You are doing great keeping up with your workouts. And being smart listening to what your body likes :)

You are entering my very favorite part of pregnancy! Soon you'll be feeling kicks and movement all the time. It is way cool!

  2. Haha, yes. It seems like I'm only "better" for a period of weeks before picking up another cold. Ugh, definitely not fun.

I was feeling lots of flutters this morning so I'm hoping to start feeling a kick any day now! :) I have heard that part is quite exciting so I'm very much looking forward to it! Thanks Bobbi!

  3. Thanks! It seems that when I'm doing good with my workouts, I come down with a cold, the weather sucks, or there is something else going on. I just have 1 more 5k that I want to complete at the end of May (depending on the temps that day). I hope the weather starts cooperating! It is almost May and we still need our heat on at home!

  5. This is just a bad time of year for head colds - I just noticed things are starting to bloom, so I hope that doesn't make it any worse!

I love variety in my workouts because it's nice to have something new to look forward to, so I can see why the elliptical didn't seem so bad if you weren't into running.

  6. Aww! Your little bump! It's so cute! I was looking for it yesterday. I couldn't find it. Ha ha ha. Thanks for showing it off.

I hope that cold goes away! :(

  7. Thankfully I don't have any outdoor allergies so hopefully things won't get too much worse.

I think that is going to be the only way I'll be able to keep working out while pregnant, if I can keep a variety going!

  8. Lol, the bump was definitely fully visible after that gigantic lunch yesterday! Haha. Next time I see you, I'm sure it will be even bigger!

I also hope this cold goes away, thanks!

Awkward air hugs are the new craze, for sure.
