Vacation Accountability

Have you entered my Running on the Wall Giveaway yet? You have until Wednesday, January 9th to enter!

This past weekend we made our annual trip to Lake Geneva. My husband's family has been going up there once a year for the past 30+ years. Last year I had a lot of trouble fitting in my workouts so this year I planned accordingly. I met up with the local running club for a run on New Years Eve morning. Pepper came with me and she absolutely loved the attention! She would just stand by various people in the group, waiting for them to pet her. Lol. Amanda even brought champagne for us to sip on.
Can you spot the happiest dog in the world?

Tuesday I braved the dark and freezing temps to meet up with the running club again for some easy miles. When we left for Lake Geneva on Thursday, I was happy to already have 2 runs under my belt.

In preparation of a long run, I had emailed Kim earlier in the week as I knew she didn't live that far from Lake Geneva. We met on a trail that was half way in between for 9 windy miles. Bobbi joined us too! Since I haven't actually ran with Kim or Bobbi before, it was a lot of fun.
Thanks Kim, for letting me steal your photo!

Kim even got me a birthday present (complete with a card that made me laugh)! Thanks again Kim for the amazing gifts!! :) We ended up having a bit too much fun at the local watering hole on Friday night so I was glad I got my run done earlier in the morning! I brought a Picky Bar with me on the run that we shared as I really want to try and get a fueling strategy down this year. It seems I get part way there and then my stomach has other ideas...

Running on vacation is always hard, but it helps to have some friends that will meet you half way! When you go on vacation, do you run with friends? Do you look up local running clubs to participate with?

Do you have any traditions or vacations that your family has done for many years?

  1. Did you get any skiing in? I stayed at the Grand Geneva last winter and ran the golf course and skied at their hill.

  2. No, I guess the family used to go skiing a long time ago. Now everyone just pretty much hangs around the resort.

  3. I don't have friends to meet up with on vacation! But that's great! I'm glad you got a run in with them! I'm so jealous! Happy Birthday again Kelly!

  4. You did awesome getting your workouts in during and before the trip! :) So happy we got to meet up. I had a lot of fun!

I am usually decent about working out on vacay. And I do usually find local bloggers to work out with! :)

  5. I thought you've met up with groups in Ohio before? Thanks for the birthday wishes!

  6. Thanks! I like when I can actually "learn" from my mistakes from previous years. Haha. How do you find local bloggers to run with? Do you follow bloggers from all around the area?

  7. Nice work on staying accountable! Unfortunately, I don't get many options over holidays back home, but I always remember to bring a dvd or two with me. Also, on the legit vacations, I usually scout out where the hotel gym is... even for just 20 minutes...

  8. When I go on vacation, I always look for local races to try to run, and the local running clubs are always great resources!

  9. I follow an embarassing amount of bloggers so I usually find someone. Lame, I know!

  10. So cool you got to run on vacation. It's seriously a challenge most of the time.

When I went to Montreal a few years ago, the hotel we stayed at had an in house runner who took people out for an hour or 2. I ran with him to the top of The mountain in town. That was pretty cool. Now I'm going to Brasil and have a race to run while there. But, running outside in the days before it will be a challenge. There is a beautiful park across the street from our hotel where the race will be, but I've already been warned to not bring my garmin or anything because I could become a target for mugging. So I might just use the treadmill instead of running in the park (which will be so sad :(

  11. Agreed! Working out a little bit is better than not working out at all, right? :)

  12. I am lucky that Kim and Bobbi lived so close to where we were staying. If schedules allow, I am hoping to do the same thing next year!! :)

That is nice that the race is so close to your hotel, but not so great that the park is kind of sketchy. What a bummer! Do you know of anyone that would want to go with you?

  13. We have a family reunion every year between New Years and Christmas, and it's so darn fun. And so far my only coordinated out-of-town run (with someone other than family) was with you! But obviously that was awesome, so I want to try it again. What kind of dog is Pepper?
