2013 Goals

After reflecting on my 2012 goals, I'm ready to start a new chapter of whatever 2013 will bring. I have lots of plans so we'll see where time will take me!

  • Attempt my first trail race (this is a rollover from 2012 as this didn't really happen)
  • PR the half marathon (I really want to try for a 1:45 as I totally think this is something I can do.)
  • PR the 5k (Would love to get much lower into the 22s or even into the 21s!)
  • Be more selective with my race schedule (I ran 17 races in 2012 and I felt this was too much. I wasn't able to have fun at all of them, and I think my bank account will be thankful if I take it down a notch in 2013.)
  • Attend more gym classes and try different types of cross training (Already tried crossfit and I also want to give Zumba a try!) Sub-goal: do yoga at least once a month (preferably once a week). I just found a Comcast Yoga for Runners video that is less than 20 minutes. I think I can manage that once a week.
  • I have one more goal that I have mentioned to a few folks already, but I'm not ready to post it yet for all to read (although, if you've been reading the comments, you can probably guess/figure out what it is). I'm just going to leave it at that.

What are some of your goals for 2013? I love the start of a new year. A clean slate with a fresh state of mind to get things rolling on a positive note! :)

Just a few new pieces of hardware to add to the collection... :)

  1. Ooo! Let's do a trail race together!!! Pretty please?!

No set goals for me this year. Just continue to have fun and run a lot (esp. with friends!!!). Okay, I would like to race in some new states too. High chance I get to race in UT :)

  2. I think you are totally capable of achieving your goals. Trail races are sooo fun! Muddy monk has a bunch in the Chicago area. I also want to get a sub 22 5k pr this year... Maybe we can coordinate to run a race together and push eachother to finish strong. And I'm intrigued by what your other goal is now... :)

  3. This year I think I'm also going to be more select about what races I do, and train more adequately for each one. I feel like the last few years have been a jumble of "omg, let's see how many I can fit in each month!". Quality vs. quantity...

  6. I have to look into this yoga for runners. I used to go to the free yoga at lululemon every Saturday, but they stopped doing it for a while at the one near me and I got out of the routine.

  7. Nice goals. You should be able to get them all. Cutting down on the number of races and targeting a few will help you keep your training focused and your PRs will be more easily attained.

  17. If you have Comcast, they have free yoga videos. Or you could always rent one at the library to find out what you like before committing to purchase.

  20. Was the "Comcast Yoga for Runners video" online? Let me know how you like it... I need a good one like that. Love Yoga when I do it. Hope our race schedules collide a couple times!

  21. I found it OnDemand but I'm not sure if it is also available online. Let me know if you find out that it is!

I also hope our schedules collide in 2013! My grandparents don't live to far from Peoria so maybe when I go and visit them, we can do a meet up some time? :)
