Lunchtime Run and Unnecessary New Shoes

After my super running weekend, I rested on Monday but decided to go for some miles during my lunch break on Tuesday. My evenings are filled with studies so I don't really have time for much in the evenings.
I took this quick photo along the Chicago River before heading back to the office. My pace was a bit quick, but I'm enjoying the chance to go a little quicker now that the weather is nicer! It seems so much easier! :) I said it before and I'll say it again. I am LOVING these fall temperatures!! :)

This weekend my husband and I are going to visit my grandparents where we don't get good cell phone reception. It should be a fun weekend and I hope to get in some good studying time! The lake that they live on is really hilly 5 mile loop. I'm hoping to go around it once in preparation for the Zooma Great Lakes half marathon that I'll be running next weekend!

As you may know, I'm a huge fan of Asics and have been for years. The Kayano brand has gotten me through a full marathon training cycle without pain.
GR Marathon, 10/2011, Kayano 17s

I recently purchased a pair of Brooks Adrenaline and I have really liked running in them. However, when I switch back to my old Asics, it just feels like the glass slipper. I was looking on Twitter yesterday and saw an article that a new version of the Kayano is to be released in November. I am super excited to test them out, even though I'm not really in the market for a new pair of shoes. When the day comes for me to run another marathon, I just wouldn't trust any other shoe.

Do you have shoe loyalty as well? Have you ever gotten really excited about a new shoe version coming out?

  1. This fall weather is just so fab! I just want to run forever and ever and ever!

I tend to stick to Asics. The cushioning feels so nice!

Have a great weekend with your fam! Enjoy the hills! :)

  2. I am an Adidas man now. I had some Nikes that the top did not last at all. I tried Adidas and liked them but then tried some model of Asics and they were just too darn stiff for me. Now I am scared to try anything else for fear of wasting money. At least my Asics are my casual non-running shoe.

  3. Mizuno Wave Inspire 8s have changed my running life. The shoes have taken all the pressure off of my tibialis anterior which was my main problem/injury area. Also wearing 1.5 sizes too big has saved my toes!

  4. Due to my overpronation issues, I think that is why I like Asics so much--the stiffness...

  5. I have a pair of the Inspire 8s that I like to use for racing. Isn't it great to find a pair of shoes that you LOVE?!

Yes the new version is supposed to be a bit lighter but still true to the Kayano style. Didn't realize until recently that people are CRAZY for this shoe! They are very similar to the adrenaline, but in my opinion the adrenaline is kind if a clunky shoe.

  8. I was most excited to hear that they've dropped almost a 1/2 ounce of weight from the 18s. Very exciting!!! Haha. I also feel that the Adrenalines look clunkier on my feet versus others. Maybe it is the insoles??

  9. No loyalty for me, I'm simply addicted to all shoes! Seriously, I've only put 200+ miles on one pair of shoes yet my closet holds at LEAST 10 pairs. I blame it on my inability to find a pair of shoes that keeps my shin splints at bay. Two weeks ago I bought Brooks PureCadence, and this week I ordered a pair of the new Asics 2000s. I hated the 2150s a few years back but supposedly they revamped the line. SO! We'll see! Fingers crossed, because my bank account can't handle much more experimenting ;)

  10. Have you tried getting a gait analysis and talking with experts at different running stores? I know there are certain exercises you can do too to help with shin splints--have you talked to a physical therapist? What about compression? Hope you find a good solution soon!

  12. Not really. I normally choose the best shoes for my feet and running style. Right now I run a pair Saucony shoes which I bought from one of those advanced sports shops where they test your feet and running style and then recommend the appropriate shoes for you. I still have the Asics shoes that caused me to get injured last year which I now wear as just everyday shoes.

By the way, did you check out my blog? What do you think of it? It's still a work in progress, so I suppose it will take a while for people to respond to it. How long did it take before you started having a significant following on your blog?

  13. I have to admit though, I do need a pair of new shoes.

  14. I now have 4 pairs of Brooks Glycerine. I've already had to put one down, but since they work I'm going to keep buying them. I tried a few other brands/types when I first started running, but if it's not broke, don't fix it, right?

  15. I think you've got a point there... If it ain't broke, don't fix it...
