Blogger Lunch in the Loop

This week has been dragging for me so I was happy when Thursday FINALLY came around. Not only because it was Thursday and it was time for my group run, but because I got to go have lunch at Native Foods Cafe with Kim and Erin! I have been there a few times before so I didn't quite have this reaction. It is an all vegan restaurant where the food doesn't taste vegan, bland, and gross. It tastes delicious and tasty.
Don't worry. Those onions were removed immediately.

I mean, doesn't this look delicious? Maybe because I'm really hungry right now, but I kind of want to go there again and get the same thing. (I don't think Kim would be opposed to meeting me again also...)

Lunch was nice and we chatted about our husbands and their sense of cleaning as well as our pets and the funny things they do. Kim has a 50k coming up this weekend (her first ultra)! We will all be running the Zooma Half Marathon together on October 20, although I'll probably dedicate an entire blog post to that race and the expectations in the weeks to come.

It was a nice cool day and we remembered to take a photo at the end!
L to R: me, Erin, Kim

Have you ever tried something that you thought you wouldn't like but then you actually liked it? I did this recently with BBQ sauce. Now, I can't get enough sweet baby ray's.

  1. YES! Let's go back!

I wish my cat would give me a high five. Maybe I can train him...

Lunch was too short! Stupid 12:00 meeting. I hope the next time we go we can hang out longer.

Since I go there way too much I hear a lot of people talking smack in the line about how gross vegan food is. Most of the food there is rich and indulgent. It's not fru fru vegan food ;)

Oops. I still didn't answer your question. I tried some Indian food Steven made and was surprised I liked it! I may have been really hungry though - it was after strength class and a 5 mile run :)

  3. Mmmm, Native Foods. I wish it wasn't so expensive! Or probably full of calories. It's so good. We should definitely go again.

Did you think you didn't like BBQ sauce at all?

Every time I make a sauce that has cinnamon in it and it's not for dessert I think I won't like it. But then I do.

  4. Haha, I like to think that vegan = no calories since they can't use butter, cheese, or eggs. Although, I'm sure that is probably not true at all. I also wish it wasn't so expensive... or I would go there right now (not joking).

I didn't like BBQ sauce for years. I didn't even like the smell of it. Then I went to Memphis and had real BBQ. Ever since then, the tides have turned and I now like it. It is delicious.

  5. Haha, maybe if you had a piece of popcorn in your hand, Data would try to swipe and grab it?? Lol. I also agree that lunch was too short (but then again, it always seems that way). That just means we have to plan another outing! I want that bacon cheddar burger again, RIGHT NOW. Haha.

I'm glad you liked Indian food! It is very flavorful and often times very vegetarian/vegan friendly. I love it and I miss my days of living in the city and having access to good Indian food.

  6. I love Native Foods! I go to the one in Lakeview all the time! My favorite thing to eat there is the Ensalada Azteca. When I am really hungry and indulgent I get the Soul Bowl, which has both ranch and BBQ sauce. It is really good!

  7. I don't know why I'm such a sandwich person but I feel like I have to go with a wrap or sandwich for lunch. I haven't shied away from the bacon cheeseburger because it is just so good! I wish their location was more central in the loop. It takes me a good 15 minutes to walk there from my office so I don't go there nearly as much as I'd like to...
