New Kicks: A Love Story

Last weekend I had a date with my husband's cousin. Not just any date... we headed to Running for Kicks in Palos to buy a new pair of shoes. Running for Kicks is kind of a local legend, and the owner is well known in the local running community. His store sponsors local races and it caters only to runners. I had a really great experience when I went back in February and picked up my new Asics that got me through a lot of races and my spring and summer training cycle. As the miles on those treads are starting to get up there, I knew it was time for a new pair. I went in there wanting to give a few other brands a try, including Brooks and Saucony (plus, they were out of Asics 2170s anyways). (The employee helping me seemed to know her stuff, but at first glance she didn't really look like an employee at a running store. I hadn't seen her working there before so I was caught off-guard a bit.)

Anywayssss, I tried on a few Sauconys that were similar to the Asics 2170s and the Asics Kayanos but I wasn't completely sold. The Brooks shoes, on the other hand, felt like I was running on pillows. So comfortable! I've been running in Asics since I was 14, but now I may have a new favorite. Feet, meet the Brooks Adrenaline 12.

I am in love. I tested them out for the first time last week and they were amazing. I can't wait to try them out more! I have a feeling this is the start of a beautiful relationship. I'm really glad I decided to give Brooks a try! What is your favorite brand of running shoe? Have you branched out from an old favorite?

  1. I heart my adrenalines. But I have a new found love for my Mizuno Wave Inspires. So much that I am in a quandry about which shoe to purchase next...

  2. I wore Brooks Adrenalines for years but last year was told they no longer had the support I needed. So, now I'm in Asics!

  4. Congrats on your new shoes! A new pair is always exciting. I've been in the Asics Kayanos since last fall, I'm a big heel striker so I need the stability. Maybe one day I'll be able to transition to mid-foot striking and I can get something else. :)

  5. I currently run in Adrenaline 11's & 12's. BUT, I just tried the lighter weight Brooks PureCadence, which are still in the stability category (which I need), and I might be in love...

  7. like the new kicks! i have always been an Asics girl as I started in the Cumulus and went to the Nimbus. I recently branched out and started wearing the Brooks Pure Flow for my shorter races and absolutely love them!

  8. I also run with the Mizuno Wave Inspires! I like them for speedwork or 5ks but I don't think they offer the support I need for longer runs.

  9. What Asics are you currently wearing? The 2170s or the Kayanos or something else?

  10. When I run another marathon, I know I'll be back to the Kayanos because they offered me the support I needed for those long distances. Since my weekly mileage is much lower these days, I'm able to go with a mid-range stability shoe which definitely opens the door to more options!

  12. I used to wear those! But they are for overpronators and I supinate. Oopsie. So I got fitted for the right type of shoes (neutral) and am back to Asics. I really like the ones I wear now (Cumulus). I have gone through countless pairs.

I am happy you like these so far! They are a very popular shoe!
