Long Run, Surprise Bridal Shower, and Ragnar 2013

This past weekend was another busy one! I got in a 9 mile long run with some beautiful temps. I wanted to stay close to home so I met up with the FN Runners. I joined some of them for the last 9 of an 18 miler. I gotta say, I'm not really jealous of those training for the marathon this year. I'm glad I'm taking the year off.

After my run, I headed to Kate LF's house to help put the finishing touches on the surprise bridal shower for Kate S! I've never planned a shower before and it was hard work! Especially the part about keeping it a surprise... Overall, I'd say it was a success because guests came and Kate was surprised! :)
The theme of the shower was "red white and blue" since Kate
is a July 3rd baby and those are her favorite colors

As some of you may remember, I volunteered as a part of Amanda, Jess, and Kate's Ragnar team in June this past year. To take advantage of the early bird discount, we're already putting a team together for 2013! I'm excited as we start to piece together ideas, team names, sponsors, etc.! I'll probably be talking about this more and more in the months to come and I'll be looking for tips and advice for those of you that have completed a Ragnar in the past! If you're interested in being a part of the team as an alternate or volunteer, please let me know!

How was your long run this weekend? If you live in Chicago, how much are you LOVING these temps?

Also, don't forget to enter my Zipfizz giveaway! You have all week to enter!

  4. The weather could stay like it was this weekend all year round and I'd be super happy!

I did Ragnar in 2011 and loved it! My only advice? Figure out where you can squeeze in eating a real restaurant and do that at least once. You'll get REALLY tired of PB&J and Clif bars sooner than you think.

Also, if you can find someone who lives close to the route who will let you crash on their living room floor while the other van is running, take advantage of it! Being able to be horizontal for at least an hour will be a lifesaver.

  6. That is a good point! I know we are putting together a 9 person team so I'm not sure how the rotations/leap frogging will go just yet (Ragnar noob) but this sounds like a great idea!

Hmm, I will have to look along this route to see who I can contact... another stellar idea!

  7. Kate worked on those jello shots for hours (literally). They turned out really cute though and were also delicious. I'm glad everything turned out great and thanks for coming! I know I still owe you $$ for my FNRC shirt. I'll message you on FB for your address to send a check. Thanks!

  9. You can have a 9 person team? I didn’t know that! I thought it had to be 6 or 12.

  10. I worked the finish line and saw all different lengths of teams. 9 was fairly popular (behind 11 and 12). There was even a team of 3 people that completed it! YIKES!

  12. I am so happy I am not training for a marathon this summer too. I mean, I am running long distances, but I don't feel the pressure of a road race.

I was going to echo Erin's comment about finding a place to crash. A real place. I would have liked that when I did Ragnar :)

  13. So I'll be in Chicago in October. We need to set up a run, or at least, I need the fresh scoop on the best runs in the city. My husband will be at a conference part of the time, and we'll be kid free!:)
