Wipeout

Last night I went out for a 5 miler with the pup and she was pretty pumped about it. We haven't gone on a run together in weeks and with Toph back at work full time, she has extra energy to burn.
This is Pepper's "How much longer do we have to wait for your Garmin?" face

The plan was 5 miles at an easy pace. Everything was going great until I went to check my Garmin peep at mile 3 and I tripped on the uneven sidewalk and went down. I caught my fall with my hands, and scraped up my palms, knee, leg, and lower butt. I'm just a big scraped up mess, right before my cousin's bachelorette party vacation to Nashville. As I posted on my Facebook page last night, seconds after falling down I made sure to pause my Garmin and take some photos for the blog before fully evaluating that I was okay.

Thankfully all of the wounds are simply scrapes and no real bruises or breaks. I'm still going to do some foam rolling and stretching just to get out the kinks of anything that might have tightened up in the fall.

Thankfully Pepper was a saint and just waited patiently as I took my breath for a minute. The cut on my hand hurts the most. I just have to remember not to give anyone a high five for awhile. But I don't think that would be too difficult. Have you ever wiped out on a run? How wicked were your wounds? Those dang sidewalk squares and their uneven-ness! I know I'm not the only one to have felt the wrath of their fury! (right...??)

  1. Wow, those are some badass battle wounds. They look painful.

  2. This is my biggest fear! And why I usually run in the street (even if my crazy neighbors try to take me out with their cars!) I am laughing, though, that you stopped to take photos :)

  3. Ok so I find it hilarious that you got to use the "Pause my garmin" photo!! So sorry you fell though! Ouch!
I've tripped while running on uneven sidewalks when I run in the dark but I've never fully fallen thankfully! Have fun on your trip!

  4. They only hurt in the shower, except the one on my hand. That hurts most of the time. Lol. I was going to try to lift weights today. We'll see if that can happen--not sure with the placement of the wound!

  5. When I run with the dog, I hate running in the street. I don't want her to think that is okay (she probably can't tell the difference, just me being paranoid). I was thinking "These cars driving by are probably wondering WTH am I doing..." The photos were crucial! :)

  6. As soon as I was envisioning my blog post, that photo popped into my head. So true!!

Thanks! This trip has been a long time in the making. Can't wait for it to finally be here!

I'm glad you are okay! I tripped over a crack in the sidewalk right before the Palos Half and it has totally jacked up my left hip. In fact, I think it keeps getting worse instead of better. I hope you don't have any lasting issues.

  8. oh noooooo! scrapes are the worst! That one on your hand looks like a doozy! So sweet of pepper to make sure you were ok. :) (I would also pause my Garmin)

  9. Thanks Amanda. I hope everything works out okay with your hip! That doesn't sound like fun :(

  10. Yeah, the one on my hand hurts the most. Garmin pausing was the biggest priority. Haha!!

  11. I am glad you are okay. I have fallen more than once when running. First time was at the beginning of the two mile at a track me. I fell within the first 100 meters but managed to get back up and catch up to the pack and win the race (I was a teenager so much more resilent than I am now. Second time was in college at the end of a 20 mile training run with the cross country team. I was teh victim of ineven sidewalks and ended up having to have knee surgery. Boo!

  12. And I guess I have typing/grammar issues! It was a track meet and I was the victim of uneven sidewalks!! :)

  13. Oh yikes! I actually fell on an indoor track meet way back in the high school days. Some of those can be quite slippery!!

  15. I took my first spill while running last fall but it wasn't nearly as epic as yours! Ouchie!

  16. So sad! Luckily my worst falls were on trails, and I skidded on dirt instead of concrete. But I'm a klutz, so this is in my future. I'll just give you e-high-fives so it doesn't hurt.

  17. I'm shocked I haven't yet fallen on the trails as I did a lot of my long runs during the winter on local trails.

    Thanks for the e-high-fives!

  18. I'm glad to know you are okay after your fall! Running can be dangerous (if you're clumsy)

  19. Ouchie! I am surprised this has not happened to me yet, as I am a huge klutz. I have hurt myself recently, but not while running (fell down the stairs, accidentally kicked my husband's sandal last night and now my toenail is black and blue). I would totally pause the Garmin and take pics too. I am happy it's just scrapes!

  20. Ouch! That toenail sounds painful! :( I knew my fellow blogger friends would understand! :)
