Serious Internal Debate

Last night I worked late and was able to catch up on the Biggest Loser from last week. I don't know what it was like in previous seasons, but a lot of these folks seem like jerks. Does anyone have similar thoughts? While watching the Biggest Loser, I was inspired to do some workouts. I did all my normal core exercises and also tried to do some pushups. Wow, pushups are way harder than I remember. I could barely do 5 on my knees. Maybe one day I'll be able to do a normal one?

A recent announcement on Facebook over the weekend was that the Get Lucky 7k/21k was coming to Chicago. The race is being put on by Team Ortho (Monster Dash, Polar Dash). I've heard positives and negatives of both races, so I'm not sure about my feelings on Team Ortho. But I'm totally smitten/sucked in by the idea of another St. Patrick's Day themed race. The swag: a zip up jacket with the "Get Lucky" slogan on the front, a race medal with a shamrock on it. Let's be honest, I just really really want that shamrock medal! There are plenty of other spring races that are traditional half marathons, but their medal doesn't have a shamrock on it. (Haha I guess you can take the girl out of the South Side Irish but you can't take the South Side Irish out of the girl!)

I'm officially signed up for the Cupid Chase 5k this Saturday. I'll be pacing Amanda for a birthday PR (that I know she can totally get). I still plan on running the Valparaiso Valentine 5k on Sunday too, so this should be a fun and busy weekend! Will you be racing this weekend? If so, what race?

  1. Birthday PR!! Yay!! I was getting a little crap (small amount) b/c I shouldn't be trying for PR's while marathon training...you know, you can get injured! But it's a 5k and I'm stubborn!!

I can't believe I actually have to do 12 miles that weekend of the shamrock race...and that's only 13.1...that's why I would consider it. I like the medal too. But...do I want to spend more money on another race? And I wouldn't be trying to PR or anything...hm...

Let me know if you are goingto do it.

  2. sometimes those people on biggest loser get on my nerves a little bit. I have no tolerance for publicly televised pity parties. Good for you though. I usually watch biggest loser and snack. (i'm terrible.) Let me know if you plan on running this! I kinda want the shamrock medal too.....

  3. I don't really want to aim to PR this race or anything since it is such a strange distance (shorter than 13.1), but I think it would be fun to get the feet moving and have a fun training race/run. This is me trying to justify how badly I want that dang shamrock medal! Haha. I can never have enough shamrock themed gear!!

  4. I wonder if the Biggest Loser casting folks are specifically picking jerks to up the "drama" on the show and keep viewership high. I mean, it worked for the Real World, Real Housewives, the Kardashians, etc. Personally I hate reality shows where all they do is fight/yell/pout/etc. I hate the immature drama. (Although I haven't watched BL in awhile, how bad is it?)

I'm with you on the serious internal debate over the Get Lucky race. I really like the hoodie!!! But I'm already racing the weekend before and both weekends following, do I really want to do four weekends in a row? I think if a Schwaggle deal comes out, I might sign up for the 7K. Otherwise ... sniffle ... no hoodie for me. Although I thought I decided I wasn't going to do the Chi-Town Half, then a friend I haven't seen in over a year posted that she signed up for it, and there went that decision.

  5. Yes! All this smack talk and drama... I know it makes for "interesting" reality TV, but isn't that why people watch The Bachelor or Jersey Shore? I just want to see these folks meet their goals and lose some weight!

I am leaning toward running it, but we'll see how much it costs when registration opens later this week. Fingers crossed it isn't too expensive!

  6. Haha, you are probably right. I guess that is also why crazy girls and boys are chosen on dating shows (i.e. The Bachelor). I can't do the Chi Town half due to pending vacation plans, so I'm leaning towards this Get Lucky race. I think I would LIVE in that hoodie and add it to the rotation.

  8. Me too. I think that might put me over the edge. Registration is supposed to open tomorrow...

  9. I love the medal and hoodie for the Get Lucky race too! But I have heard a few negative things about Team Ortho as well...so will depend on the cost on rather I run this or not. There's an 8K in the south burbs I may do instead on the 18th! xox

  10. Donna - do you have any info on that 8K? I'd like to post it on www.runchicagosouth.com.

  11. I debated against the Polar Dash and now I'm debating FOR Get Lucky. There is another half marathon in Cary, IL on March 18 as well. Apparently it is a big racing weekend as people are ready to come outside and RUN!

  12. If I'm in town I really want to do this!

  14. Haha, thanks! It was for the Warrior Dash. They have ones in different states all over! It was a really fun race and I would recommend it for folks looking to step outside the box. www.warriordash.com

  15. I wonder when they're going to have the Web site and information up for this race. It's pretty soon!

  16. I remember this being an issue with the Polar Dash. They said registration would be one day but it wasn't. Kind of weird if you ask me. Don't post a date if you're not going to have everything ready.
