Reflecting on my workouts from this past week, I didn't run as much as I wanted to. Monday I hit the gym and lifted. Tuesday I took a rest day for Valentine's day. Wednesday I planned to run when I got home from CCD but it was raining and I was too lazy to go to the gym. Thursday when I ran with my group I realized it was the first time I had run since Sunday. Since my work schedule has been pretty crazy, I've been logging more miles during the weekend. I have to get into a better routine of more consistently logging miles instead of bulking up when I have time. I also need to add speedwork back into the routine, especially if I want to break 40:00 for the Shamrock Shuffle this year. When your workload becomes too much to handle, how do you make time for your runs? I've struggled with this recently and I after this week, I'm going to get back on the right track! I have to spread out my workouts without risk of overtraining. Thanks again Hal Higdon for more of your great advice! (Yes, I'm still reading the same book I keep talking about.)
In other news, Abdi Abdirahman will be running the Shamrock Shuffle this year. Too bad I'll be crossing the finish line after he's been long finished. Maybe I'll see him at the post race party and we can become besties? TBD. If you are also running this race, click here and let us know! A blogger meet up is in the works folks! :)
You ladies are so fast! My plan is to wear roller skates and lasso Abdi - that way he can pull me to a record breaking time! SEE YOU AT THE FINISH LINE!! (jk, i think Abdi and i are the same weight. he would probably collapse. or yell at me. I will be behind you!)
ReplyDeleteHahaha, that visual made me crack up. Yes, we will have to meet up post race. I always dress up for this race and wear as much green as possible. 6th year and going strong!
ReplyDeleteI WOULD LOVE! - to run with you guys. I wish I could run 6 miles that fast.....I just don't have the speed yet. I can run faster than that for 5k but not for 10. sigh. I really hope to get there.
ReplyDeleteYou will, I'm sure! Last year at this same time, I was at a 9:30-9:45 pace for the same distance. It takes time and practice without over training. Have you finished Hal Higdon's Marathon book yet? I'm just over 1/2 way. :)
ReplyDeleteYou'll get there! Last June my 5K PR was an 8:30 pace. Now I'm banging these out during 6 mile tempo runs? It's amazing what consistent running will get you.
ReplyDeleteWhat corral are you in for Shamrock? Kelly and I are in B.
ReplyDeleteI'm in C. Maybe i should lasso one of you speedy gals!! :D
ReplyDeleteYeah! Post race blogger beers!
ReplyDeleteI like all this lassoing talk.
ReplyDelete"I'm just here for the beer"
ReplyDeleteWell, I'm certainly out of your age group, and I believe out of your speed as well :( I will try to show up for next Thursday's run, but you will have to take pitty on my old bones! Seriously, though...great job on getting out there and running. Beautiful weather lately!!!
ReplyDeleteAwesome speedy run!!!
ReplyDeleteI have a hard time fitting runs in during the week too. :( I sometimes have to wake up really early before work to get it in :(
Haha Susan! You are so fast on those longer runs. An inspiration to us all! I also hope to see you on Thursday! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm glad I'm not the only one! Usually when I set my alarm to get up early, I end up turning it off and going back to bed. That is a bad habit I've picked up since moving to the suburbs. I used to love getting in my run before the work day. Hopefully after daylight savings time, I'll be a bit more motivated. :)
