2011 Recap and Hopes for 2012 (Standard)

Yesterday working from home went well, and I was able to get some stuff done. As a "late lunch," I decided to meet up with Kate and Susan from the FNRC. Kate is training for the Polar Dash and had 11 miles to complete. I met her part way for 4 miles and then ran a cool down 0.9 miles back to the car. Overall distance was 4.9 miles in 42:14 (average of 8:37 per mile). I was pretty happy with the pace as I haven't done very many speedy runs this week.

Tomorrow is the Matteson 5k that I'm very excited about. I'm going to try and break into the 22 minute category (last 5k was 23:03).

In the spirit of the new year, I've made a list of things accomplished in 2011 and goals for 2012. My mail goal for 2011 was to finish the Chicago Marathon. Things didn't workout as planned (which I've brought up a billion times), but I still got the medal!

In 2011:
Completed my first obstacle course race (Warrior Dash)

Attempted my 1st marathon (Chicago Marathon)

Finished my 1st marathon on the 2nd try (Grand Rapids Marathon)

Goals for 2012:
Complete my first trail race
Complete 12 races in 12 months
Finish a half marathon in under 2 hours
Complete a 5k in under 23 minutes (current PR is 23:03)
Run at least 650 miles for the year
Cross train with weights and cardio 4x per month

I think these goals are achievable and I plan on using Daily Mile to help keep track of the miles and cross training, along with Athlinks to keep track of the races.

In OTHER NEWS... Toph and I are officially registered for the Warrior Dash 2012! I'm so excited as this is the first race we will both be doing, ever. He's not into races so I'm excited for us to complete this together. Obviously, the plan is to run faster than him. :)

Have you written out your goals yet for 2012? How do you plan on keeping track of them?

  1. Loved reading your 2011 recap. It's like peeking into someone's scrapbook. Good luck in your 5K. I hope you get that PR. I am also going to try to run 12 in 12 - one race per month and I'm using DailyMile and Athlinks too!

  2. Awesome goals for 2012! I bet you will meet them all. I still need to come up with my 2012 goals. All I know is I want to PR in the 5K.

Good luck tomorrow at the 5K! Have fun! Okay... fast 5Ks are not always fun. :)

  3. I didn't PR at the 5k so this goal still stands for 2012! I'm very happy with the overall results. Thanks! Best of luck to PR your 5k!

  5. Great goals! There is a Chicago Trail Race series that I've been wanting to check out but haven't yet: http://www.chicagotrailseries.com/ - we should check it out together!

  6. Warrior dash? Full marathon? My 2012 goals seem wimpy compared to your 2011 accomplishments! I've been using Running Ahead to track my mileage but just started using DailyMile too. Can't decide which I like better. Good luck with your resolutions!

  7. Haha, hardly! I know some people use both Daily Mile and Running Ahead as they each have their positive aspects. I'm just sticking with Daily Mile right now. I've never had a way to track my treadmill workouts before so I'm excited to see how many miles I'll rack up in 2012! Thanks so much!

P.S. I love the name of your blog. Unfortunately margaritas are full of calories AND deliciousness.

  8. I use both DailyMile and RunningAhead. I like DM for the social aspect, but RA is good if you're really into stats and graphs and stuff. Both can sync with your Garmin.
